Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common reproductive diseases and remains the main cause of female infertility. Despite extensive research, no sole medication has been approved by the FDA to treat PCOS.
Research has recently introduced new therapeutic drugs, including several herbal medicines such as Resveratrol, Curcumin sulfate, and Quercetin, using transcriptome functional analysis with a drug repositioning approach.
- Resveratrol – A type of natural phenol
- Curcumin sulfate – Curcumin is a bright yellow chemical produced by plants of the Curcuma longa species
- Quercetin – A plant flavonol

Interestingly, the abovementioned drugs are used on the market as supplements. It is also worth mentioning that Resveratrol is currently undergoing clinical trials to evaluate its efficacy in treating both PCOS (NCT02766803, NCT04867252) and infertility (NCT03446625, NCT05410093).
